Chapter Eight

Diego walked behind Phrenzy into the hotel, wondering if the clerks behind the desk or the porters scurrying around to handle the patron’s bags knew there were dragons residing within the walls. More than likely not, he’d have to assume, but were there those in his world that knew what trolled under the surface? There had to be a small group of humans, outside those who were mates, who knew of and assisted the dragons, whether they knew it or not. There would be no way for the dragons to assimilate so well if they didn’t have a tie to the human world.

Or perhaps their human forms were so good at hiding what lurked beneath that no one would ever think to guess.

While Diego had sat on the plane, festering over Phrenzy’s declaration, he’d done anything to not think about the rampant desire rushing through his veins. That course of action led him to consider all the unknowns he had, his mind setting up lines of questions. He of course couldn’t ask Phrenzy his questions at the moment. He was too angry to open his mouth beyond the necessary. So, his brain had driven trains of thought to where he’d seen them logically going, trying to figure out the shifters’ world without the assistance of Phrenzy.

But now all the questions were becoming as varied and numerous as the want inside him and threatened to explode within his mind. He’d have to push his anger away if he wanted answers, and he wasn’t quite ready to release it yet.

Phrenzy headed straight for the elevator bank and pushed the Up button as soon as he stopped before the shining stainless doors. Diego attempted to ignore Phrenzy’s handsome reflection, but his gaze was drawn like a moth to the flame.

There was an aura of danger about the man. He wasn’t clean-cut and crisp lines. Phrenzy’s scruffy jaw hid a masculine beauty, Diego was sure of it. A haircut and a shave would prove his theory, but then that wouldn’t be Phrenzy. He wore relaxed jeans and a loose black V-neck sweater, also hiding the cut physique Diego had already witnessed. Phrenzy was a bit of a mess, but then his name implied that in itself. Frenzied energy circled the shifter, and that energy kept Diego on edge.

That coupled with the intense need that hadn’t slackened, but had only grown exponentially since Diego had huffed back over to his seat on the jet about an hour before.

Diego’s cock was hard, rock hard and almost painful. His balls and shaft throbbed with the need to be stroked. Even now his fingers itched to reach down and give himself relief, no matter who watched him do it.

Yet that in and of itself was part of the problem he had. He was completely out of control. No matter how right it felt to be with Phrenzy, if scared him that he lacked the power over his own instincts and reactions.

Maybe it would become easier for him to hold back the need.
